FIRE TRAINING

Training courses on fire safety available for Staff Awareness, Fire Marshall and Fire Safety Training for Managers.

This training is designed to equip employees with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain their safety from fire in accordance with the current fire safety legislation. The training is delivered by an experienced ex-fire fighter and is very interactive, including a practical demonstration.

Staff Awareness

Core Course Content:

• State the fire triangle
• State the main causes of workplace fires
• Recognise how fire spreads
• State the actions to take on discovering a fire
• Raise the alarm
• State the actions to take on hearing a fire alarm
• State the procedures for informing visitors or others of actions to take in event of fire
• State the arrangements for calling the Emergency Services
• State the evacuation procedures
• Recognise the machinery/processes etc that require shut down in event of fire alarm
• Recognise the importance of fire doors
• State why lifts are not to be used during fire evacuation
• Identify the criteria for the safe location of and state the function of assembly points
• State the classes of Fire
• Recognise the types and safe operation of fire extinguishers
• Recognise and state the limitations of each fire extinguisher
• State the location of fire extinguishers
• Identify the operation and safe use of a fire blanket
• Recognise the importance of safe storage and use of flammable and explosive substances
• Recognise the importance of general fire safety including good housekeeping

Fire Warden Training

Course Content

• The role & responsibilities of a Fire Warden / Marshall
• To develop an appreciation of the primary reason for fire prevention
• The basic elements required for combustion
• The methods of extinguishing different types of fire
• Fire classification
• Understand the principals of combustion, fire and heat transfer
• Appreciate the main causes of workplace fire and preventative strategies
• To understand the different types of warning & detection systems
• Understand how to evaluate emergency escape routes
• Be introduced to the various fire extinguishers in the work place and how to use them effectively
• Discussion regarding local arrangements

• The need for active/passive fire protection and interactive role in a fire engineered building.
• Building deficiencies and the selection of suitable controls to ensure legislative compliance.
• The application of precautions to adequately control fire hazards.
• Future fire training needs for your organisation.
• Correct design code document for common types of occupancies.
• Human behaviour in relation to fire.
• How fires spread and controlling influences.
• The application of generic means of escape methodology (exercise and discussion).
• The application of British Standard extinguisher requirements to a medium sized building (exercise).
